Rent control bill dies in committee before Washington Senate

OLYMPIA, Wash.- A bill which would have placed a 7% annual cap on rent increases across Washington died in the Senate Ways and Means Committee on Feb. 26.

HB 2114, which received no action before the committee and will now need to be reintroduced as a new policy next biennium if it is to ever become law, was hotly contested during House Floor debates.

In addition to creating a rent increase cap, it would have required landlords to inform tenants of increases in their rent.

The cap would have affected both urban renters and mobile homeowners who rent their land in rural areas.
