PULLMAN, Wash. — The Pullman Police Department recently obtained a surplus MaxxPro MRAP. The urban rescue vehicle (URV) was free of cost to Pullman police and is built to withstand ballistic arms fire and other threats.

The URV is primarily assigned to the Whitman County SWAT team; it will be utilized for transport, cover and concealment for situations such as hostage rescue, active shooter incidents and more.

It is anticipated to be the primary vehicle for any situation where gunfire is possible and will provide time and distance shielding for de-escalation scenarios.

The area’s rural setting, limited resources and university campuses require the need for reliable public safety tools, and this new addition will add exceptional public safety value to the Palouse region and its emergency incidents.

Pullman Police Department is proud to move forward in the improvement of public safety responses with the deployment of the URV.
