Pullman police lift shelter-in-place advisory for residents in Golden Hills area

PULLMAN, Wash. — Residents in Pullman were advised to shelter in place Wednesday morning as police responded to reports of a suicidal person in the Golden Hills area.

According to Pullman Police Department, a call came in on Sept. 20 at around 7:40 a.m. to report a suicidal person. It was determined a 51-year-old man, who had failed to show up to work after making suicidal statements, had removed a firearm from his home.

The man was located in a marshy area near Wawawai Rd. Shortly before 10 a.m., officers heard a single shot fired from a handgun as they approached. The Whitman County Regional SWAT was deployed, and drones were used to locate the man for officer safety.

At 11:30 a.m., officers confirmed the man had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and the shelter-in-place advisory was lifted.

The shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted for residents near Sunnyside Park in Pullman.

The road will start reopening as police leave the area.

Residents near Sunnyside Park in Pullman have been advised to shelter in place due to a reported standoff in the area.

According to Pullman Police Department, Wawawai Rd. is closed from Golden Hills Dr. to Marcia Dr. due to an ongoing incident. Residents in the area have been issued a shelter-in-place warning.
