SPOKANE, Wash.- The Lilac City will observe Presidents Day, which is a federal holiday, with no parking meter payments and closings of some city institutions.

Riverfront Park, including the ice ribbon and carousel, will remain open. Public libraries will be closed, and the City Council will not hold any public meetings.

City Hall will remain open, but Municipal Court will only be accessible via phone. Trash and recycling pick-up will continue as normal.

Presidents Day is a tradition which dates back to the 1800s and was made a federal holiday by the US Congress in 1971. Washington residents can boast that their state is the only one in the nation that is named after a president.
