Prescribed burn planned in Rustler’s Gulch Wildlife Area

NEWPORT, Wash. – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will conduct a 250 acre prescribed burn in Rustler’s Gulch in the coming weeks.

The burn will take place 20 miles off US Route 2 near Newport. WDFW assured the public that the prescribed department work should not impose an undue burden upon those interested in enjoying the wildlife area.

“Rustler’s Creek is made up of almost three thousand acres of public land…there will be plenty of area available for hunting. We just ask that members of the public stay out of burn areas and give crews room to work,” WDFW said.

Burns will begin as soon as weather conditions are optimal according to the department, and are intended to reduce wildfire risk during fire season.
