Post Falls and Athol Libraries reopen limited services after January flooding

POST FALLS, Idaho — Post Falls and Athol Libraries reopened one-on-one staff assistance, internet and Wi-Fi access, book browsing, hold pick up and more, after flooding forced them to close in January.

“This reopening represents a significant step forward in restoring essential resources and community access to library facilities,” said Alexa Eccles, Community Library Network’s (CLN’s) Library Director.

The services will be offered in the library’s bookmobile at the Athol Library’s parking lot and in the lobby and meeting room at the Post Falls location.

CLN is contracted with Compass Construction for flood repairs, which they say will ensure timely restoration and efficient completion of repairs. According to CLN, the library district’s insurance provider, Idaho Counties Risk Management Program (ICRMP), is expected to cover all construction repair costs, which are nearly $700,000.

“While insurance coverage for construction repair costs alleviates some financial burden, the cost of replacing all damaged items remains a significant concern,” Eccles said. “Efforts to address this issue have already included fundraising book sales and may involve seeking additional funding sources or exploring cost-saving measures to mitigate the impact on the library’s budget.”

For the most up-to-date information on service availability and updates on construction progress, patrons are encouraged to check the library’s website and social media platforms.

Post Falls limited library services hours will be Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Athol bookmobile services will be available Tuesday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
