Plows hit Spokane roads as consistent snow falls throughout the region

SPOKANE, Wash. – As consistent snow hits the Inland Northwest, Spokane County crews are working to clear and deice roadways.

Since Nov. 31, crews in Spokane County’s four districts have been plowing, deicing and sanding roads. Spokane County said they are paying additional attention to areas prone to icy conditions like hills, curves and intersections.

“Today’s snow event has a high moisture content, making it easier for traffic to pack down,” said Martha Wheatley-Billete, PW Information and Outreach Manager for Spokane County. “As temperatures drop overnight, it will quickly freeze.”

You are asked to slow down while driving, allowing more time and distance between vehicles to ensure you can come to a complete stop. Spokane County urges all drivers to stay at least 50 feet from all snow removal equipment and never pass on the right.

“During a snow event, the top priority of crews are the major arterials and emergency routes. Those are followed by secondary arterials and hilly residential neighborhoods,” said Wheatley-Billeter.
