SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters from Spokane County Fire District 8 responded to a neighbor’s call for help when they noticed a shop on fire last night.

According to SCFD, a neighbor reported a fire in a shop near an unoccupied house. The fire burned through the shop, destroying most of the items inside.

Since the house and shop were unoccupied, no injuries were reported.

SCFD closed a stretch of the Palouse Highway during the fire due to slick conditions and safety concerns for residents in the area.

Due to the fire’s location in a rural area, Fire District 11 and the Spokane Fire Department were called in to assist and transport water.

The Chief of SCFD 8 emphasized the importance of maintaining a minimum of three feet perimeter around flammables such as heaters as a winter fire safety precaution.

While the Palouse Highway has reopened, it may still be slick due to current weather conditions.
