SPOKANE, Wash. — More than 43,000 runners filled the streets of Spokane on Sunday for the annual Bloomsday race.
Kasandra Parker won the women’s elite race, becoming the first American woman to claim the title in more than 20 years. Reid Buchanan won the men’s elite race, marking the first American male winner since 1986.
A total of 43,670 runners participated in the 12-kilometer event, according to Bethany Luick with the Lilac Bloomsday Association.
Bloomsday, one of the nation’s largest timed road races, winds through downtown Spokane and over the city’s signature Doomsday Hill, drawing elite athletes and community runners from across the country each spring.
