POST FALLS, Idaho – An investigation revealed that Wednesday morning’s car crash involving a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his K9 partner was caused by the other driver failing to yield.

According to Idaho State Police, the deputy was traveling northbound on McGuire Road while the other driver was stopped at a westbound stop sign on Bodine Avenue. The other driver then reportedly pulled in front of the Deputy’s patrol car as the Deputy was approaching the intersection.

As a result of the crash with the other vehicle, the deputy then struck a power pole on the west side of McGuire.

The other driver was cited by Idaho State Police for failing to yield at a stop sign and also for having obstructed windows, as they were frosted over at the time of the incident.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office has also released dash camera footage of the crash.

As previously reported, the Deputy received minor injuries from the crash and the other driver as well as the K9 were uninjured.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office has also urged drivers to defrost their windows before driving to ensure safety, according to the release.
