NORTHERN LAKES, Idaho — The Northern Lake Fire Protection District has announced the formation of a new certified dive rescue team!

With help from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, four firefighters have will train with KCSO dive team with a goal to have six total divers certified in the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District.

This new team will help residents feel safer while on the water. The community will know that a well-trained group of certified divers are ready to respond quickly to water emergencies.

All NLFD firefighters on the dive team will have “medical training; providing care from the Emergency Medical Technician level to the Paramedic level.”

The divers are committed to maintaining their skills at the highest level. They are certified from the open water level all the way up to the rescue level. This is one of the highest qualifications available.

Each diver needed to complete a minimum of 80 hours per year of training before receiving their certificate.

A $7,200 donation from Northwest Specialty Hospital helped make this initiative possible and helped increase public safety!

The new dive team wants to remind people to always wear a life vest when doing water-based activities, never swim alone and inform others of your plans if you go out by yourself.
