No charges for Spokane County sheriff’s deputies who shot man in 2022

SPOKANE, Wash. – No charges against two Spokane County sheriff’s deputies who shot and killed an armed man in Loon Lake in October 2022 will be filed according to the Spokane County prosecutor.

Jeffery Smith was killed by sheriff’s deputies on Oct. 12 while he was reportedly wielding a pistol and making threats toward law enforcement.

Prosecutor Larry Haskell announced that Deputies Stephan Blaakman and Alexx Bullion will not be charged by Spokane or Steven’s County on Wednesday.

The investigation into the use of force by officers, which was found to be legitimate by prosecutors, was conducted by the Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team.
