SPOKANE, Wash. — After several years, the next section of the Children of the Sun Trail is set to open on Saturday!
Bikers, walkers or rollers can head over to the new section at Columbia Avenue in the Hillyard neighborhood south to Cleveland Avenue in the Minnehaha Neighborhood.
Once this section is open, the Children of the Sun Trail will connect nearly seven miles from northern Wandermere to south of Cleveland Avenue.
The trail will also run parallel to the North Spokane Corridor and connect into the Ben Burr Trail and Centennial Trail which will give residents more options to bike, walk or run!
While the trail is opening to the public on Saturday, there are still more features being added. Workers will add benches, kiosks, permanent signing, bridge lighting and plazas.
Work is set to officially be complete in spring or summer 2024, which is when WSDOT will hold a community-driven celebration and ribbon-cutting for the trail.
