New health clinic to expand rural healthcare access in Reardan

REARDAN, Wash. — Rural residents who currently drive miles to see a doctor will soon have expanded healthcare access as a new medical clinic takes shape in this small West Plains community.

The new facility, being constructed next to the existing health clinic in Reardan, will replace a small blue building that has served the town of approximately 700 residents but has outgrown its capacity.

“This space that we have has been here a long time, and we actually bought this used,” said Tyson Lacy, CEO of Lincoln Hospital, referring to the current clinic. “They can see anywhere between, probably about up to 20, 22, (a day) is really what it can do. They could see more if they had the space. If it was better laid out. The workflow is just not great for what this is.”

The current clinic houses the town’s only doctor, who serves patients in a facility with limited space and workflow challenges. As more people move to the West Plains area, the demand for local healthcare has increased. With any residents to travel to Davenport to the west or Spokane to the east for medical care.

The new clinic promises to address these accessibility issues with modern design and expanded capacity.

“This will give us a new modern space with all the ability to have all the technology in the right spots and have things flow better, as well as be quieter for patients, better patient privacy,” Lacy said.

Once completed, the facility will accommodate a second healthcare provider, effectively doubling the number of patients the clinic can serve daily. The expansion addresses a critical need in rural healthcare, where access to medical services often requires significant travel.

The new clinic also aims to maintain the advantages of rural healthcare delivery, including shorter wait times compared to urban medical facilities.

“For us primary care, our wait times are generally far lower than what you see in Spokane and in the urban areas. And we do have the flexibility to get people in sooner. And so we hope to make it more convenient and, more accessible for all those patients,” Lacy said.

Local residents who currently travel outside Reardan for medical care have expressed interest in using the new facility once it opens. The new health clinic is scheduled to open at the end of October.
