Spokane celebrates Bike Everywhere Day with community rides and energizer stations

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane marked National Bike Everywhere Day on Wednesday with community rides and energizer stations positioned throughout the city as part of the broader May Bike Month celebration.

The city organized a community ride along the Centennial Trail to City Hall, drawing cyclists from across the region. Local businesses supported the event and the day by putting energizer stations to fuel cyclists during their rides.

Hillyard Bicycle set up a station on the Children of the Sun Trail in northeast Spokane, offering people biking by everything from snacks to hard-boiled eggs and bacon. The business aimed to increase community participation in cycling activities.

“Bike Everywhere Month is great. Everyone is out having fun. We hope to see more people using the trails and more butts on seats,” said Scott Willegalle, owner of Hillyard Bicycle.

The energizer stations operated from 7 to 9 a.m. for morning commuters, with multiple locations across the city. Some participating businesses and groups included the City of Spokane Bicycle Advisory Board station at North Howard and Mallon, First Avenue Coffee downtown, Indaba coffee shops offering free drip coffee at all locations, and Yokes Fresh Market.

Mayor Lisa Brown joined the Spokane Police Department and local cycling advocates for the Mayor’s Bike-to-Work-Day ride. The group gathered at the West Central Community Center at the corner of Belt Street and Spofford Avenue for a 7:30 a.m. departure, riding along the Centennial Trail to City Hall.

The celebration extends beyond Wednesday’s events as part of the month-long May Bike Month initiative. You can find a full list of events the Spokane Bicycle Club has planned for the coming weeks here.
