BOISE, Idaho – A 5k race celebrating wildland firefighters will take place at Ann Morrison Park on June 2.

The race is being coordinated by Boise Fire, the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) and Fleet Feet.

Runners will start at 9 and do not have to pay to attend the inaugural event. Registration details are available on NIFC’s website.

Organizers intend for the event to highlight the importance of wildland firefighters to the national emergency response infrastructure.

“This event recognizes the dedication of wildland firefighters, including federal, state, local, Tribal, military, rural, contract, and support personnel who are the backbone of the wildland fire community,” organizers said via social media.

Participants will not be timed and will receive a medal and bag for attending the 5k celebration.
