Murray condemns court ruling restricting mifepristone access

Senator Patty Murray condemned a federal appeals court decision that restricts access to mifepristone, calling it part of a broader Republican push toward a national abortion ban.

The Washington Democrat said three judges sided with anti-abortion politicians over FDA scientists and 25 years of safety data.

“Mifepristone is safe and effective — millions of women have used this medication since the FDA approved it over 25 years ago,” Murray said. “The only reason mifepristone is regulated as heavily as it already is, is because of anti-abortion politics, not because of science.”

The ruling forces women to visit clinics in person instead of receiving medication by mail, requiring time off work and travel.

Murray criticized judges for overruling medical expertise despite having “zero medical or scientific training.”

“Let’s be eyes wide open that Republicans will accept nothing short of a national abortion ban,” she said.

The senator pledged to continue fighting for medication abortion access.
