SPOKANE, Wash – After 50 years of service at Rosauers, COO Mike Shirts is retiring.

Shirts started with the company back in 1974 in Moscow. He was a box boy back then, but it wouldn’t be long before he’d take a managerial position as just a teenager. He eagerly worked his way up the local chain to where he is today.

“My ideal job was going to be an accountant and maybe focus on tax. I love people. I love to interact with people and I figured this is where I should be,” Shirts said.

His work carried him to managerial roles in Pullman, Hood River, Missoula, and eventually Spokane, where he’d become COO in 2000.

“It’s been awesome. Great people, people that are really focused on taking care of each other, taking care of customers,” Shirts said.

Shirts is hanging the hat after five decades at the local chain to enjoy some time out golfing and traveling with his wife.

“Tomorrow is promised to no one, and so at some point, you have to balance when you think you have enough money and you think you have enough time, and you try to match the two together – this was the right time,” Shirts said.
