Mini-venture in Spokane, pt 1: Wednesday at the Cider House

0

Date: September 20th, 2017
Time: 5-7pm
Where: One Tree Cider House, 111 S Madison St, Spokane WA 99201
Event: Working Women’s Wednesday with 92.9 ZZU

That’s What I Call a Miniventure:  While the Working Women’s Wednesday gatherings have been going on for quite awhile, this was the first week I made it a point to attend the event. Why was this Wednesday special enough to encourage my participation? Four words: One – Tree – Cider – House.

If you are a fan of hard cider (like moi), you may have experienced One Tree Hard Cider by now. With distribution around the area (and beyond), you can buy bottles of cider at most local grocery stores, and find cider on tap at many local restaurants and bars. Up until recently you could also head out to the tasting room in Spokane Valley to sample offerings from One Tree Hard Cider and more independent cider-makers. But as of September 8th the Tasting Room was out and the Cider House is now in.

With 20 ciders on tap (four of their own and 16 from other cider companies), as well as a menu of share-able food items (the tots with curry ketchup and Lemon Basil mustard, as well as the Rico pizza with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and pesto, are particularly tasty), One Tree Cider House is a perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening with friends and acquaintances.  They have tables, small booths, couches, and bar seating available, and cider comes in flights of 4 oz tasters, or individually in 16 oz glasses. They also sell and fill growlers, if you are into that kind of thing (and why wouldn’t you be, the cider is delicious and totally worth getting in growler amounts).

I don’t have much experience with participation in Working Women’s Wednesday, but I do know they had a full house at One Tree. I arrived around 5:30pm and it was standing room only by that point. I stuck it out, however, and eventually got to sit at a cozy table set up for board-games and socializing. I won a raffle prize, tried some cider off the ‘secret menu’, and chatted with one of the One Tree owners. It was a fun experience, and I’ll certainly be back – to One Tree Cider House soon, and to Working Women’s Wednesday maybe the next time it takes place at a venue I enjoy as much.
