SPOKANE, Wash. – The Mead High School Cheer team took home their second state title this weekend, earning the highest-scoring non-tumbling routine across the state.

The Panther’s gold team is made up of 15 cheerleaders who traveled to Battle Ground in an attempt to defend their WIAA title.

Mead competed in the 3A Non Tumbling Medium division against seven other teams, including Mt. Spokane High School.

Their final score was 77.2, showcasing a near-perfect routine. The Mead High School Cheer head coach said this group of athletes beat their competition by 12 points, earning the highest non-tumbling score of the competition.

“As coaches, we are so proud of each and every one of these athletes. From last year to this year, we lost ten really strong seniors and two strong juniors, so this is a very new and young team, but they all came in ready to pick up where last year’s team left off and continue the legacy that we are working to build at Mead.” Head Coach Katherine Melka said. “This year was all about putting the team first and so many athletes stepped up to do just that and come together for this victory!”

Now, the Panthers are preparing to compete in the 2024 USA Spirit Nationals in Anaheim, California, in just two weeks.
