Many local organizations are in need volunteers for special events this holiday season!

SPOKANE, Wash. — The holiday season is a time for giving back, and for some people they look for ways to give back to their community. In Spokane, many local organizations and programs are looking for people to help them out.

Here are some ways you can give back to your community:

The American Red Cross asks for volunteers to help within their disaster action team. All three of these positions can either be remote or in-person. Disaster Duty Officer – document disaster notifications and verify events, dispatch disaster action team responders and monitor the response. May activate health services, mental health or public affairs.DAT Responder – provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.Recovery Caseworker – meet the disaster-caused needs of individuals and families with casework and recovery planning by matching resources and assistance to these needs.

City of Spokane is looking for ski and snowboard instructors to help those with disabilities learn how to navigate on the snow. These classes will take place on Mount Spokane on weekends typically from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) also offers classes at other resorts like Silver Mountain, 49 Degrees North and Mission Ridge. To view their schedule and to volunteer as an instructor, go to the City of Spokane website for more information.

ProjectID is looking for arts and crafts instructors to help teach adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities on how to draw and paint. This fun volunteer opportunity doesn’t require any qualifications and is a great way to engage with community members and help them create masterpieces.

The program’s hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. For more information about volunteering, go to the ProjectID website.

ProjectID is looking for coaches and volunteers for their largest Special Olympics ever! Volunteers don’t need to have experience or athletic skill necessary, just a willingness to support athletes and help coaches!

They are always looking for people to help with sports throughout the year. In the fall they have bowling, in the winter they have basketball, in the spring they have track & field and in the summer they have softball.
