Man with 48 arrests charged with vehicular homicide after fatal crash

COEUR D’ALENE — A man who was released from prison just days earlier has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and DUI after crashing a pickup truck into a Kootenai County condo, killing an elderly man and injuring a woman.

Dillon Henderson appeared in court today facing charges stemming from the deadly crash in Hayden that has left a community grieving

According to court testimony, the elderly victim was eating dinner when the pickup truck smashed into the condo. The force of the vehicle pushed the recliner chair he was seated in into a different wall, and the victim was found inside that wall.

The woman who was injured and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries was the victim’s girlfriend, according to neighbors. She has since been released from the hospital.

The state claims Henderson had purchased and used an intoxicating inhalant just minutes before the crash occurred.

Neighbors said when the truck hit the house, they felt their own homes shake from the impact. A bumper and license plate remain at the scene as evidence of the deadly crash.

Henderson had been released from Idaho State Prison just a few days before the crash. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says this arrest marks his 48th time being booked into the county jail.

“At the time of this offense, the defendant was on felony probation for a felony drug charge, possession of a controlled substance. That was a 2024 case. And so we have an individual, Your Honor, who has had countless opportunities at treatment,” the state said during court proceedings.

During the ruling, the judge noted Henderson’s prior convictions and substance abuse problems, stating this is a very frightening case. She set his bond at $1 million.
