Adventures in Spokane, part 43: Where I Go to a Lot of Movies in February

0

AdventuresInSpokaneI saw a lot of movies in February.

Like actually went to the theater and saw movies, instead of just hanging out at home and watching whatever was streaming (or hanging out with my sister and watching another intense/depressing/emotionally draining Western like week when we saw Bone Tomahawk and The Revenant practically back-to-back).

I had a lady!date with my lovely friend Holly where we ate at Sushi Maru (THE place to get tasty food before any kind of event) and then went upstairs to see Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (follow the link for my review of the film!) at the Riverpark Square AMC. Then a couple days later I had a Monday off from work so took my current!roommate to see the early showing of the new Coen Bros’ film Hail, Caesar!, also at the Riverpark Square AMC. It was a fun flick, though not what I would call the greatest in the Coen oeuvre.

By the way, I’m totally getting spoiled by the seats at the Riverpark Square AMC. It’s a little annoying that I need to book tickets in advance to get the seats I want, BUT the comfy recliners and lack of tall people sitting directly in front of me (used to happen almost every single time!) totally makes up for it so far. I was worried the first time I took in a late night show after dinner and drinks that I’d fall asleep in one of those comfy seats, but luckily I managed to stay awake for the entire film (Crimson Peak that time, which also happens to be a great movie).

Anyhoo, my month in movies didn’t stop after Hail, Caesar! (cause if it had it wouldn’t really be a month in movies, now would it?). When my older sister’s birthday rolled around (happy 29+8 sister mine!) we went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse in Coeur d’Alene (had myself the pulled pork dinner and it was mighty tasty, along with a fruity margarita drink that didn’t even taste like a margarita), hit up Gaslamp at Riverpark Square for drinks afterward (I tried a lovely huckleberry lemondrop that was both sweet and tart), and then went to the theater to see Deadpool.

Deadpool is a fun flick. You should go see it. Unless you are under the age of 17. Then you should wait a few years. It definitely earns it’s Rated R rating.

I should probably interrupt right quick to mention that I haven’t gone to three movies in one week in probably ten years – if ever. Back in the day when I was a kid we’d go every weekend or so, and there was a week when teenager me and my BFFKT saw Quills five times (because reasons), and there was a trip to California where I think we saw Jurassic Park twice and Robin Hood Men in Tights once in a week period, but even back then it wasn’t the norm to see so many films at the theater so close together.

Sometimes things like this just happen, I guess.

And sometimes you just like a movie so very much that you can’t seem to stop yourself from going as often as possible. Case in point: I saw Star Wars The Force Awakens in February as well.

It was my fourth viewing of the movie.

I should probably have an intervention or something. Even I can admit that’s a lot.

Worth it though.

So worth it.

Moving on now.

I padded out my movie viewing with a lot of great food. A lady!date with my friend G started at Mustard Seed with Chicken Osaka and then some gallivanting around Northtown Mall. Lunch with my lil!sis included bento lunches (teriyaki chicken, rice, and miso soup) at Sushi I, as well as mani/pedis at Mai Nails next door. My coworkers and I tried out Poole’s Pub up the street from the station on a Friday afternoon. Service was a bit slow but my breakfast burger and fries were delicious. And while Taco Bell may not be the best Mexican food ever, my night out with my favorite (and only) niece for tacos and ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery after was a lot of fun.

The month closed out with a trip to Northern Quest Casino to hit up the buffet (and try at least a bite of every dessert offered – we were totally those people) and play some slots. None of my group won big but we had a good time and that’s what counts, right? PLUS, it gave me a break from all the movie viewing.

Maybe I don’t need an intervention after all.

Though if anyone wants to go to Star Wars The Force Awakens and let me tag along, I wouldn’t say no.

On that (somewhat pathetic) note I’ll wrap up this edition of Adventures in Spokane. I’ll be back soon to talk about the music of Star Wars (yeah ok I definitely need help), getting into cosplay-fit shape, and pinup photoshoots. If you want to pass the time until I return you can head out for some adventures of your own. You might even see me bouncing around town while you’re out there (and if you find me and introduce yourself I’ll give you a prize!).
