SPOKANE, Wash. — A man believed to be impaired was transported to the hospital by Life Flight after a crash near Williams Lake on Sunday.

On March 3, around 4:50 p.m., deputies with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to the report of a crash on South Mullinix Road and West Willimas Lake Road.

According to SCSO, initial information indicated a man driving a sedan was traveling north on South Mullinix Road when he left the roadway, swerved back into the northbound lanes and stopped. Witnesses said the man was driving erratically before the crash.

SCSO confirmed deputies observed several alcoholic cans inside the car. The man was taken to the hospital via Life Flight in critical condition. SCSO confirmed he is now in stable condition.

A truck also driving north on South Mullinix Road tried to stop to avoid crashing into the stopped car. The driver could not stop in time and crashed into the back of the sedan.

SCSO said the truck driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Traffic Unit Investigators and Spokane Investigative Response Team Volunteers assisted with traffic control.

Believing the driver of the sedan was impaired, investigators requested and were granted a search warrant to obtain a sample of the driver’s blood for testing.

Investigators believe impairment is a factor in this crash. This incident remains an active investigation.
