LEWIS COUNTY, Idaho – The final suspect involved in a July 2022 car crash which injured a Lewis County Deputy was sentenced Monday.

Keith A. Sarbacher received a 14-year sentence in the Idaho State Prison with parole eligibility after three years.

The third person to be sentenced in relation to the incident, Sarbacher had fled from a Lewis County Deputy while driving a stolen UTV.

During the deputy’s pursuit of Sarbacher, a second car crashed into the rear of the deputy’s patrol car, causing the patrol car to roll.

“Mr. Sarbacher’s sentencing is the culmination of literally years of work by the Idaho State Police Investigations division and their diligence and persistence has led to accountability for the three individuals involved in the July 2022 incident. This would not have been possible without the countless hours spent by the ISP detectives and partner agencies including the Lewis, Idaho, and Clearwater Counties Sheriff’s Offices as well as law enforcement from across the region. It has truly been a team effort,” said Lewis County Prosecutor, Zachary Pall

Prior to Sarbacher’s sentencing, the driver of the ramming vehicle, Lucas Hancock, was sentenced to 22.5 years with parole eligibility after seven and a half years. The passenger of the ramming vehicle, Shyla Chapman, was also sentenced to five years with parole eligibility after three years.

“We are relieved to see these cases resolved and know that our deputy can focus on the future. The community can rest a little easier knowing that these three individuals are now and for some time will be off our streets,” said Lewis County Sheriff, Jason Davis.
