SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was taken into custody after he pointed a gun at the Family Promise Emergency Shelter employee Wednesday night.

According to a release from the shelter, Alex Crosen pointed a gun at a staff member while he was taking out the trash around 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 20. The shelter said this was the eighth incident where Crosen made threats to the staff or guests in the last few weeks.

Police surrounded his home near the 2000 block of East Sinto Avenue. He was taken into custody, where he is being charged with two counts of second-degree assault, according to the Spokane County Jail roster.

The shelter does not know the motive behind these threats but did confirm that Crosen flies a confederate flag at his home. According to Family Promise Emergency Family Shelter, Crosen made multiple derogatory comments to guests and staff of color and pointed his weapon at one of the black staff members.

“We take threats against our staff and guests very seriously and intend to ensure justice is served,” the shelter said.

No one was injured in this incident. Family Promise Emergency Family Shelter will provide counseling and support to anyone needing it.

This incident remains under investigation.
