SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A man was arrested for felony DUI after he was found asleep with his car still running.

On Nov. 14, an on-duty AMR medic responded to a call of a driver blocking traffic in the eastbound lane of 32nd Ave.

When the medic approached the car, the man, 62-year-old Scott C. Reckord, was found slumped over in his driver’s seat while the car was still running and in gear.

The medic woke him up and placed the vehicle in park. He then removed the keys from ignition after Reckord attempted to both drive away and walk into oncoming traffic.

When deputies arrived, they attempted to perform a sobriety evaluation, but Reckord was unable to complete it. He appeared to have slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and exhibited poor balance. He was arrested for DUI and transported to the Spokane Valley Jail.

He was previously convicted of vehicular homicide in 2012, making this arrest a felony. Superior Court Commissioner E. Cruz ordered Reckord to be released on his own recognizance after appearing in court Wednesday afternoon.
