IDAHO – Lori Vallow Daybell, the woman convicted for the murder of two of her children in 2019, has filed an amendment to her motion of appeal.

After a trial lasting several months, a jury found Vallow guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of two of her children, 7-year-old Joshua Jaxon “JJ” Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan in May of this year. She was also found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder of her husband’s former wife, Tammy Daybell, and for two counts of first-degree grand theft.

Vallow and her attorney filed an appeal on Aug. 31, citing 16 issues before and during the trial she and her defense believe should be given scrutiny.

Following the motion to appeal, Vallow’s defense counsel was substituted and the appeal suspended. An extension was granted to file an amended appeal while her new counsel became familiar with the case.

On Oct. 4, an amended notice of appeal was filed, this time citing more than 30 transcripts be prepared for the clerk’s record from between May 2021 and July 2023. Her defense also asked for sealed portions of the record be included and compiled in a separate confidential volume.

As noted by East Idaho News, the appellate process can take years to conclude, which may delay Vallow’s appearance in Arizona, where she will be extradited to face related crimes.

The trial of her husband and alleged accomplice, Chad Daybell, is scheduled to begin April 1, 2024.
