SPOKANE, Wash. — Lucky Goods and Vinegar Goods in the Vinegar Flats area were shot at twice this week.
Celeste Shaw, who owns both businesses, discovered shattered windows Monday around 10 a.m. and again Tuesday night around 10 p.m.
Spokane police say it appears a pellet gun was used, and they are investigating.
Shaw expressed particular concern about the safety of her customers. She closed Lucky Goods for the day Wednesday. Vinegar Goods has remained open.
“We have young mothers, we have elderly women, we have pregnant women. I mean, people come and go from this building all the time,” Shaw said. “And so whoever’s doing this really had no way of knowing whether someone was in the building or not.”
The recent shootings add to what has been a challenging year for Shaw’s business operations. Just two months ago, her downtown coffee shop, Dear Coco, was broken into while Shaw was hospitalized battling an illness.
“They said Coco was… someone broke into Coco, and they’re still in the building, and the police are down there, and I just was like, I couldn’t do anything,” Shaw recalled of receiving the news while in the hospital.
Shaw expressed relief that none of her employees were inside either shop during the shootings, since both incidents occurred outside normal business hours.
Spokane police are actively investigating both shootings but have not identified a suspect.
