At the Frontier Arena in Coeur d’Alene, almost 50 young skaters have been practicing to perform at the Team Challenge Cup. They’ll be the first to take the ice Sunday, April 24, 2016.

“We’re doing an exhibition show to open the exhibition at the end of the competition,” said skater Courtney Kirschke.

They represent three local skating clubs from Spokane, Coeur d’Alene and Wenatchee.

“It’s really fun to be part of such a big event that lots of people from all around are coming to,” said skater Emily Dodd.

It’s been a big commitment. These skaters have been practicing their performance for the last three weeks.

“The choreography for this has been really challenging because we have skaters from really 5 years old, basic 2, which is the second level of skating, to all the way up through 17 years old,” said Maureen Herr, Skating Director for Spokane Figure Skating Club.

For the skaters, it’s a great opportunity to perform right before their skating heroes.

“I’m nervous, but excited, because I’ll be on the same ice as my idols,” said Dodd.
