Local donates to Idaho businesswoman who was a theft victim

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash – After our story aired on March 6, Greg Green, owner of GGHolding Inc., generously donated the amount of money stolen from Kamiah, ID businesswoman, Calista Zumhofe.

Zumhofe said Wednesday, March 6 that around $8,000 in inventory and equipment was taken out of her truck late Sunday night in the Carnahan/Lincoln neighborhood of Spokane Valley, WA.

She was staying at an Airbnb after selling her apparel at the Custer Show at the Spokane County Fairgrounds.

“Somebody can just take it away just like that. It’s just hard. It’s hard,” Zumhofe said on March 6.

“Her losing that amount of money, or inventory in this case, to me, was a significant number,” Green said Tuesday, March 13.

Green reached out to NonStop Local’s John Webb to request Zumhofe’s contact info in order to kindly donate $8,000 to her.

“I was trying to imagine as an entrepreneur what would’ve $8,000 felt like when I’m starting out,” Green said.

Green was born in Kellogg, ID and started his own business in Coeur d’Alene. Zumhofe’s story touched him in a heartfelt way. His mother passed away about six months ago. She too, was a retail entrepreneur, just like Zumhofe.

“I would say part of this is therapy. I get this story that God gave to me on a platter and said ‘Hey your mom is up here saying please help this lady out for us,'” Green said.

Zumhofe recalled when she found out that Green was going to gift the money to her, “tears. That was my initial reaction was just tears. I’m still in shock. It almost doesn’t feel real.”

An unworldly feeling and an unworldly gift and one that Green hopes Zumhofe will return.

“She was crying on the phone, ‘I just don’t know how to thank you.’ I said ‘You don’t have to thank me. One day you can pay it forward.’ And she said ‘I promise I’ll do that,’” Green recalled.

Green sending a message to people, like him, who are in a position to help people.

“You don’t have to wait until you’re a millionaire to give money away. You can start giving it away a little at a time. Maybe the numbers are a little smaller, but I tell you it really warms your heart to help others who are really in need,” Green said.
