Junie B. Jones The Musical brings beloved character to Spokane stage

SPOKANE, Wash. — A sassy first-grader who has captured the hearts of children and parents for decades is taking center stage in Spokane this month.

Spokane Children’s Theatre is presenting “Junie B. Jones, The Musical” through March 22, bringing Barbara Park’s beloved book character to life in a production that combines humor, heart and valuable life lessons for young audiences.

The hour-and-a-half musical follows Junie B. Jones as she navigates the exciting and sometimes challenging world of first grade, experiencing the good, bad and everything in between that comes with growing up.

“It is great story for kids to learn that life is full of things not going right, and sometimes you have to alter your plans cause things don’t go the way you expected them to,” said Craig Hirt, director of the show. “And that it is going to be okay in the long run.”

The production features young local talent who have dedicated months of rehearsal time to bring this beloved character and her world to life on stage.

Spokane Children’s Theatre has scheduled multiple performance opportunities for families to experience the production. Regular performances run Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. through March 22.

An ASL interpreted performance is scheduled for March 8 at 2 p.m., making the show accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members. Additionally, a Family Value Night performance will take place March 14 at 7 p.m..
