CityGuide Companion: Sweeto Burrito, Flavor Worth Fighting For

0

A good burrito is a thing of beauty.

It’s a filling, delicious mixture of ingredients, conveniently wrapped up in a tasty tortilla.

It’s a staple of breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus at a variety of types of restaurant, and can vary from simple (perhaps with just a cheese, a meat, and a vegetable) to complex (with sauces, cheeses, meats, beans, veggies, and more).

A good burrito should be a staple of a well-rounded diet, so finding places that serve good burritos should be a priority.

And that is where Sweeto Burrito comes in. This new-to-Spokane eatery has opened up its first location in Spokane Valley and will be following that up with three more locations around the area within the next year. The Sweeto Burrito menu includes a variety of items, none of which will strike you as traditional. From the Carnivore (stuffed with grilled steak, smoked chicken, and bacon), to the titular burrito (with slow-cooked sweet shredded pork, lime rice, black beans, and pepperjack cheese), customers will find their tastebuds tickled and their appetites appeased.

We wanted to find out more about this latest addition to the Spokane eatery scene, so we asked the owner of Spokane’s Sweeto Burritos – Scott Isaak – a few questions about burritos, customer service, and why Spokane is THE place to open a restaurant with a creative concept like Sweeto Burrito.

What makes Sweeto Burrito stand out from the other fast food Mexican-style restaurants in the area?

That’s a broad question…putting it simply, we just aren’t like other “me too” burrito places.  We definitely have our own vibe, our own Sturgis connection, our ORIGINAL not copied luchadore theme and our own unique burrito combinations….our burritos each have their own name for cryin’ out loud!!  When you walk in our store it’s like walking into the Bermuda Triangle of Harley Davidson, UFC Fighter and your neighborhood pub…it’s a great place to be.  Largest difference is when our food hits your yapper….we say we are flavor worth fighting for.  It’s true.  The taste of our burritos is just ridiculously great.  We make everything here in our store, everything fresh and it’s all made daily.  Boom.

Where will the Spokane area Sweeto Burrito restaurants be located? When does each one open for business?

Our next “flavor factory” to open will be in the old Shakey’s building in the Northpointe shopping center just north of Panda. It is slated to be open by early August or sooner.  The next location will be at the hard corner of Ruby and Nora and is slated to be open by October 1.  This will be the first ground up build Sweeto in the WORLD!  Yeah, we’re pretty fired up about it.  Then, CDA…in front of Winco along Appleway in the Crossroads center!  This will be the second ground up build in the world and will finish our buildout of the “Sweeto Burrito Kingdom” for 2016.

What about Spokane made you decide this was the place to open multiple Sweeto Burrito locations?

I love the Spokane/CDA area and believe it packs a unique demographic.  It’s a real melting pot of all classes of people….meaning great wealth to great poverty.  Overall the area is represented by a true working class community that expects and deserves great food for great value and we think we hit that “nail” with a sledge hammer.  We aren’t above any class and we aren’t below anyone either.  We’ve had many times where an attorney sits at our community table across from a cement worker and senior citizens have often grubbed on our finest with young teenagers at the same table.

What is your favorite item on the menu, and why?

The PC answer here would be for me to EVERYTHING….but my staff knows the real truth.  My fav is the Carnivore with our Queso added to it.  That burrito with our homemade Queso (sauce on loan from God) is the best burrito in the house in my opinion.

When recommending new customers to try Sweeto Burrito, what menu options do you suggest they start with?

Truthfully it’s all about what each guest prefers.  I always ask, “Are you feeling like breakfast or lunch?”  (We have 2 breakfast burritos served all day everyday and they are the best in the biz!) Once I get that figured out I ask them, “Are you feeling like chicken, steak or pork?”  If the answer to that is YES…then they have the Carnivore since it has it all.  🙂

Why do you think customers continue to come back and recommend Sweeto Burrito?

Man….this is a tough one as you are asking me to compliment ourself.  I know we are not perfect but boy do we try to be daily.  I’m a big believer that us as consumers in the food arena are a funny breed.  We will return often to a dump if we are treated well and make a connection but will spurn the very best food in town if we don’t.  Summing it up, we know our customer service has to be different or we won’t be any different.  Our food is very important and we are very confident in that product but even it comes secondary to our service.  We truly want our guests happy.  Great food + great guest service = Happy Guests!  That right there is the Sweeto Math Equation and it’s our target every day.
