It’s Raining Cats at SCRAPS!

The summer forecast for SCRAPS is cats and more cats! Thursday, June 1 kicked off National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month—it also marks the height of kitten season.

In the next three months over 800 kittens will come into SCRAPS.  These adorable babies will get adopted quickly, but that leaves our beautiful adult cats waiting for weeks, even months, for a new home.

To highlight the adult cats, SCRAPS is offering a free adoption for every cat six months and older when a cat license of $15 is purchased.  To make the deal even more tempting, SCRAPS is including a cat bed and special treat.

“We are nearing capacity in our cat room,” said Nancy Hill, the Executive Director of SCRAPS. “Our adult cats would normally be adopted out within a week, but during the summer they get overlooked.”

But what if you can’t adopt? Here are some easy ways you can still help:

  • Donate your Facebook status. Just paste this message into the “What’s on your mind?” box at the top of your page: “June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month at SCRAPS.”
  • Tweet, retweet and repeat the following (or your own brilliant message): “June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month at SCRAPS.
  • Donate cat litter, kitten milk replacement formula and pate to SCRAPS.  We desperately need non-clumping litter and pate for our youngest kittens.
  • Sign up as a foster parent or shelter volunteer at SCRAPS.  Go online to scrapsvolunteer.com to find out how.
  • Pass on an understanding of the importance of pet adoption to the next generation. Talk to your kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and others about spaying and neutering.
