SPOKANE, Wash. — David Heal still can’t believe what happened. He says a man tried to break into his home on Thursday through his children’s bedroom window.

“It’s just terrifying, and I don’t know if we’ll ever get that sense of security back,” said Heal.

Heal says you just can’t prepare yourself or your children for this experience, “we can train our kids to have good, responsible behavior, but if someone who can just come in right in the house willy nilly, then it doesn’t matter what we train them for because it goes out the window.”

Heal says it could have been worse if it wasn’t for his neighbor, John Proctor.

“I’m just doing my job it was my duty as a dad. I’m gonna keep all my kids safe,” said Proctor.

After spotting him in the neighborhood for the second time in as many days, Proctor decided to chase down the man.

Proctor first noticed the man the day before as he was allegedly attempting to break into the home. He approached the man and asked if he knew the family. However, he became suspicious when he did know the neighbor’s name but he knew he had children.

“I’m wondering how does he know they have two kids when you know, he’s watching the house or something casing them out, and then he’s trying to get into a little girl’s bedroom,” said Proctor.

As for the Heal’s, they are taking no chances and installing cameras outside their home, “we are trying to take more steps to get that security back, and hopefully, we’ll be able to obtain it.”

Heal says they have filed a Crime Check Report.
