Idaho Republicans seek to make immigration winning issue in 2024 general election

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Republican party is centering the US-Mexico border in messaging efforts ahead of the 2024 general election.

Governor Brad Little (R) announced the deployment of Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers to the border on Wednesday.

“The cartel and other bad actors are taking advantage of our open border to manipulate and abuse the most vulnerable, including children,” Little said.

The deployment marks the second time Little has sent ISP to the border in 2024 so far. The governor also visited the southern border in February.

Immigration has taken center stage for Republicans nationally in recent months, and taking a trip to Texas seems to have become a rite-of-passage for GOP leaders.

Conservative lawmakers are responding to polling. According to Gallup data, the percentage of Americans who believe there should be less immigration to the United States increased from 38 percent in July 2022 to 41 percent in June 2023.

Whether immigration will prove to be a winning issue for Idaho Republicans will be determined by voters on election night.
