HUB Sports Center Host Special Olympics Unified Sports

The HUB Sports Center has joined with Special Olympics Washington to host Unified Sports basketball games on Wednesday, January 25. Teams representing six area high schools, Central Valley, University, Rogers, Mead, Mt Spokane, and Lakeside, will compete on four basketball courts. Games begin at 3pm with three rounds of play every half hour until 4:30pm.

Unified Sports involves students with and without disabilities playing together on the same team. “This is one of my favorite activities to host at the HUB Sports Center. To see these students getting to put on a school uniform and playing basketball with their peers makes my heart happy. It is a fantastic example of people putting aside their differences and working together toward a common goal.” – Executive Director, Phil Champlin

Each game will be two 10 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime. Most teams will play twice. There is no charge to come watch and cheer these athletes.

Unified Sports is a program of Special Olympics dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified Sports joins people with and without disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. To learn more about Unified Sports, please visit: www.playunified.org
