Homeowners sue City of Lewiston 1 year after reservoir destroys their home

LEWISTON, Idaho – It’s been a year since a Lewiston water reservoir flooded the streets and homes that sat below and the city is facing a lawsuit.

Some homes are still damaged from the flood and others have been fixed, but one family, NonStop Local’s John Webb spoke to when the flood happened, still hasn’t been able to get everything repaired and now Ramone and Audry Royce are suing the City of Lewiston.

The couple was told to file a tort claim, which they did, according to Audry Royce, but a year later, still nothing from the government.

Royce said the city had never sent a claims adjuster and never received a claim number.

“This isn’t going to be easy and that’s when we felt the need to get representation,” Royce said.

The City of Lewiston says it can’t comment on pending litigation. The Royce’s are suing for about $875,000. Money that Royce says can never replace their memorabilia.

“I had one little baby box of my things from when I was kid, that my parents had saved, that I chose to save, that I wanted to keep to show my kids,” Royce said.

Unfortunately, that’s not a reality anymore.

But, today, after a year of uncertainty, her husband working three jobs just to make ends meet, there is one grim, dark reality that still haunts Royce to this day.

“If one of our four kids had been down there, they would have died. There would have been no way that we could have gotten down there in time,” Royce said.

In the meantime, the city told NonStop Local today that the reservoir is fixed.
