SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Former dancers and employees of the Spokane Valley strip club Deja Vu Showgirls are protesting the demolition and revamp of the building, which will now aid victims of sex trafficking.

Helping Captives, a Spokane Valley Christian group, held its first event, calling it a men’s revival. The Spokesman-Review spoke with the CEO of the group, who stated that the goal of this event was “to help broken men heal.”

The event faced backlash from former employees expressing their distaste for it and voicing their upset over their workplace being characterized for sex trafficking. They reminded people that they were there consensually.

Despite the protest, hundreds of men still joined in the efforts to remove the stage and participated in the revival.

Helping Captives conducted the stage removal in a more private ceremony and refrained from using “stage smashing” to characterize the event.
