SPOKANE, Wash. – A former teacher at Central Valley High School (CVHS), McKenna Kindred, was sentenced Thursday after she plead guilty to first-degree sexual misconduct and inappropriate communication with a minor.

Kindred was sentenced by Spokane County Superior Court Judge Dean Chuang to 24 months of probation and she has to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

The minor was a 17-year-old male student at CVHS. Court documents show Kindred and the student had sex at her home while her husband was away.

She has been free on bond since her initial arrest.

“I know this past year has been incredibly difficult for all involved. As a result of my actions, I’ve lost my career, valuable friendships, freedoms and have let down countless people who placed their trust in me. My mental health has also significantly been affected by this event. I am deeply ashamed of the pain I have caused,” Kindred said to the court Thursday.

The mother of the victim, Ashley Beckley, read her impact statement to the court, saying this situation has irreparably harmed her son’s life and their family.

“I barely slept for several weeks in fear of the physical retaliation [my son] might be victim to as McKenna involved him in her adult marital affairs,” Beckley said.

Kindred was placed on administrative leave at CVHS in late 2022 and resigned in 2023.
