Flood Awareness Week highlights risks of spring flooding

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho Governor Brad Little has declared the week of March 17 Flood Awareness Week to highlight the dangers of spring flooding.

According to the Idaho Office of Emergency Management, flooding poses a risk to public safety across the Gem State during the spring season when winter snow melt causes higher water levels.

“Floods are among the most common and devastating natural disasters in the United States, and Idaho is no exception,” the office said.

Idaho residents are encouraged by the state government to request flood risk assessments of their homes and to be aware of their local FEMA Flood Map.
