Ferris High School hosts trades night, letting students explore multiple career paths

SPOKANE, Wash. — Tonight, industry professionals from all different fields will meet with grade school students to talk about how to get a job when they graduate.

At this event there will be electricians, welders, plumbers, subcontractors, general contractors and more. Each of them will meet with students and discuss their day-to-day!

The goal for Trades Night is to “help students see what opportunities are out there, and to try something new,” according to Ferris principal John O’Dell. “For some students four-year degrees are exactly what they need. For others, it is important to explore different paths. This country needs more trade workers.”

Anyone can go to this hand-on experience, you don’t have to be a Spokane public schools student or parent! Also, anyone who attends will get to operate various pieces of equipment and power tools, after safety training.

It’s happening tonight from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Ferris High School. Most of the machinery will be outside but the safety training will happen just inside the main entrance of the school.

You are required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Also, this event will be catered by the Ferris Culinary students!
