FDA warns customers about certain eye drop products that have risk of eye infection

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Food and Drug Administration has updated the list of over-the-counter eye drop products that have a potential risk of eye infections with side effects of partial vision loss or blindness.

Products that have been marketed as dangerous are from the following retailers:

CVS HealthLeader (Cardinal Health)Rugby (Cardinal Health)Rite AidTarget Up & Up Velocity Pharma

These products are intended to be sterile but contain ophthalmic drug products that pose a potential risk of harm. There are over 26 products that have been recalled for customers, causing CVS, Rite Aid and Target to remove it from their shelves.

On Oct. 30, the FDA added Equate Hydration PF Lubricant eye drop to the list of over-the-counter products to not purchase. These have been removed from Walmart stores.

If you own any of these eye drop products, the FDA urges you to properly discard them by either taking them to a drug take back site near you or check the FDA flush list.
