EVERETT, Wash. — The family of fallen Washington State Trooper Christopher Gadd released a statement following his memorial service on Tuesday.

“We wanted to extend our gratitude to the community for their support leading up to today’s memorial service,” the family said.

Trooper Gadd was killed by a speeding driver on March 2 just before 3 a.m. WSP said Gadd was on patrol for drunk drivers when he was hit on the shoulder of Interstate 5.

Suspect Raul Benitez Santana, 32, of Mexico, is currently being held in the Snohomish County Jail on a vehicular homicide charge. An immigration detainer was placed on Benitez Santana on March 4.

A memorial service was held at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett on March 12. Hundreds gathered from across the country to honor Trooper Gadd and his service with WSP.

“Witnessing the seats of the arena filled with representatives from across the country was warming to our hearts as we came together to honor a beloved husband, father, son, and brother,” Gadd’s family said. “We deeply appreciate all who have reached out and shown your love to our family during this difficult time. We will continue on this difficult journey together privately as a family.”
