SPOKANE, Wash. — The Alpaca Owners Association, Inc. (AOA) invites people to visit participating member farms and ranches on September 23 and 24 for the 17th annual National Alpaca Farm Days.

This fun, family-friendly event lets attendees learn about alpacas, the luxury fiber they produce, and the environmental perks of the alpaca business.

These fluffy animals are primarily raised in North America for their fleece, where there is an annual sheering.

A full-fleeced alpaca is at risk during the warmer months if not sheered, leaving it up to Alpaca owners to tend to the animals to collect the fleece to keep their livestock healthy and safe.

Alpaca fleece is highly sought after by cottage-industry artists such as hand spinners, knitters and weavers, and the commercial fashion industry because of the unique, silky feel and superb “handle.”

For more information on where to find alpaca farms near you, visit the official Alpaca Farm Days website.
