DOUGLAS COUNTY, Wash. — A 40-year-old East Wenatchee man was found dead after driving his ATV near a steep hillside Monday night.

On Jan. 1 around 1:45 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) deputies were called to help locate a missing 40-year-old Austin Davis.

Davis went for a ride on his side-by-side ATV behind his residence in the 13000 block of Highway 2 and did not return.

He left with two passengers who arrived back at the home around midnight. Deputies learned that the two passengers got out of the ATV during the ride while Davis went off on his own.

Since then, no one has heard or seen Davis. After an extensive search using a DCSO drone and side-by-side, deputies located the crashed ATV over a steep hillside.

Davis was ejected from the ATV and was found dead at the scene.

Douglas County Fire District 4 and Ballard Ambulance assisted with recovering Davis from the scene. The Douglas County Coroner will release the cause and manner of death at a later date.
