Day remembering Idaho murder victim spreads positivity

MOSCOW, Idaho – A holiday celebrating random acts of kindness in honor of one of four students killed at University of Idaho in Nov. 2022 will mark its second year May 25.

Maddie May Day, founded by Maddie May Mogen’s aunts, takes place on Mogen’s birthday and promotes positivity.

“We love the concept because everyone can participate wherever they are in the world and to whatever extent they choose. It could be as small as bringing your neighbor some flowers or as big as organizing a volunteer event,” Mogen’s family said.

The Maddie May Day website offers ideas on how to observe the day, including paying for a stranger’s coffee or mowing a neighbor’s lawn, echoing her commitment to bringing joy to people around her.

“She always greeted the people in her life with a hug and never left without making sure they knew they were loved. She was magnetic and had such an obvious, intrinsic mission of spreading kindness to anyone she encountered,” Mogen’s family said.

Maddie May Day is every May 25. Acts of kindness can be shared on social media or sent to maddiemayday2001@gmail.com.
