SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – 65-year-old Carol Streit was found dead in a field earlier this week, and at this time, the Medical Examiner has not released her cause and manner of death.

Streit near the 4500 block of E. Buckeye Avenue on Dec. 13 around 4:05 p.m.

NonStop Local obtained search warrants Friday, providing updated details.

Documents state Streit was found wearing a bra or sports bra, her pants were pulled below her waist, and there were extensive injuries to both arms.

Injuries included her left arm being “skin and bones,” her right hand appeared to be missing, and her right arm appeared to be bloody with bone visible below the elbow.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Streit was found dead in a field from injuries believed to have been caused by a dog that was later found at the scene.

The dog, described as a “pit bull” with white and brown hair, was unleashed and showed some protective and aggressive behavior as the deputies and medical personnel got close to the woman.

The dog was taken to SCRAPS.

The court documents also state that deputies responded to Streit’s home on E. Upriver Drive and said there were no apparent signs of violence.

Meanwhile, Wednesday afternoon, while driving from Spokane Valley to Spokane, Darrin Williams says he saw a woman in the area of E. Upriver Drive and Argonne Road. That’s roughly 3 miles from where Streit’s body was found.

Williams told NonStop Local the woman was acting erratically while sitting on the ground. He claims there was a white and brown dog with the woman that appeared to be malnourished.

“She got up off the ground…and started to… want to go across the street. The dog was sitting there, not wanting to go…She started pulling on the dog and pulling his leash trying to drag it. But the dog didn’t want to go…The woman started yelling at the dog, and the dog finally stood up and started to follow her across the street. He was walking slow. She was dragging the dog by the leash and choking it across the street. And then, she took the leash and swung at it [the dog] a couple times and screamed at it some more,” Williams said.

He claims other drivers noticed what the woman was doing and honked horns at her.

Williams drove off incredibly disturbed by what he had witnessed.

Then, on Thursday, he saw a news report that caught his attention.

“I then saw a report from a news channel that had a picture of the dog being hauled away [by] SCRAPS at the scene. And, it was actually the dog that I had witnessed,” Williams said.

Williams reported what he witnessed to law enforcement.

NonStop Local also confirmed that Carol Streit had been an employee of the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) in the Opioid Treatment Services Division.

“We are shocked and saddened by the news. Carol was a joy to work with and was loved by her patients. She had a smile and laugh that was infectious; you couldn’t help but grin and laugh along. Our hearts go out to her family. As colleagues and friends of Carol, we share in their grief for the loss of such a wonderful person. She will be missed,” Kelli Hawkins, the Public Information Officer for SRHD, said.
