SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County court documents reveal the circumstances which led to a shooting near Gonzaga University on Feb. 16.

Christopher Gimmaka, Kaden Willoughby and Devin McEwen are facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery and assault.

The three teenagers are accused of stealing a man’s tools. The alleged theft victim found the items on Facebook Marketplace and arranged to retrieve them after notifying Crime Check.

When he arrived at a parking lot near Andrew Rypien Field, the victim saw the car holding Gimmaka, Willoughby, McEwen and a woman court documents identify as “Sally.”

They were seen putting on ski masks before speeding off, at which point the victim pursued them while on the phone with Crime Check. It appears that the accused robbers did not plan on selling the tools, but rather planned on conducting another robbery according to court documents.

The documents state that shots were fired at the victim during the chase through northwest Spokane. Weapon magazines were thrown out of the vehicle as police pursued the car.

A pit maneuver by a Spokane Police Department (SPD) officer ultimately ended the chase, at which point “Sally” spoke to McEwen.

“Sally began asking Devin if they were going to be alright and then asked Devin something along the lines of ‘does he want to go with her.’ Before he could answer, Devin indicated [that] Sally shot herself,” court documents said.

All three surviving suspects remain in the custody of Spokane County.
