COLVILLE, Wash. – The Colville National Forest Department will begin planned fire operations as soon as March 16.

The planned fires will be as conditions allow and are used as a tool to maintain landscape and forests.

The CNFD says that prescribed fires are an important ecological benefit to some landscapes and that it helps the land with historical variability.

Smoke may be noticeable in some areas while the burns are in effect and they advise people to monitor the air quality if they are smoke sensitive.
